Description of our organisation

Our school is a Junior High School with 203 students aged from 12 to 15 years old, that prepares them for all types of Lyceum (Genarel or Tecnical).

Our city is located in the center of Greece and a mainly agricultural area. Our geography is mainly lowland, farming mainly cotton and cereals. It also includes a mountainous sector including the artificial lake of Plastiras at an altitude of 800m.

Mission statement

Our school takes part in a lot of other projects about sciences, environment, culture, human rights, healthcare through national and EU activities. It is the first time we intend to take part in a European Erasmus+ Project, as it has been our students’ and teachers’ desire and request for a long time.

Each year, groups of students under the guidance of their teachers participate to almost all the competitions organized by official agencies in Greece, in the fields of Mathematics, Chemistry, Physics, Biology, Literature, Poetry, Arts and others, gaining good results.

Our shool’s chorus participates in the annual International School Chorus Meeting, which takes place in our area every year, with great success.

Some students participate in literature competitions, such as in poetry, novel and theatre.

Each year during Spring our municipality hosts the student’s theatrical festival and people have the chance to watch plays, follow seminars and talk with people of the theatre, such as actors, directors, script writers, who are invited to be judges or to be honoured.

Of course, in our school there is a football team, a basketball team, and a volleyball team, which participate in local and national school competitions.

Our students engage actively in art, participating in local and national competitions, and volunteering in decorating and beautifying the school’s settings and surroundings.

Our school is co-housed with one more Junior High School-the 5^th Gymnasio Karditsas-and a Lyceum-the 2^nd Lyceum of Karditsa-, and we cooperate and take part in community activities with both of these schools, cultivating in this way our students’ collaboration and peer spirit and skills.

All these activities give to our school another chance to socialize and be aware of the needs of young people.

Organizational Structure

In the school, there is one position of Director and one for assistant Director.

There are 25 teachers of all fields (Philologists, Mathematicians, Physicists, Chemists, Biologists, Home Economics Teachers, English Teachers, French Teachers, German Teachers, Technologists and IT Teachers.

There are also 1 secretary and assistant personnel.

The school hosts 203 students in 10 main classrooms and 8 laboratory, workshop and special subjects classrooms.

Performing Areas

Our school, just like any other Junior high-schools in Greece, offers general education that prepares students to attend general or technical Lyceums’ lessons.

After finishing their education and taking their certificate, students are considered to have completed their basic and compulsory education and they are able to attend to whatever kind of following secondary education they choose, or to begin a vocational education.

Certifications/Awards

Each year, our students participate and often gain awards in international competitions.

Teachers from our school have participated in Erasmus+ projects for teachers and have conveyed to our school community the experiences they have obtained through their collaboration with teachers from Poland and other European countries.

The School is in the way of participating in eTwinning actions.

Key Staff

Teachers and staff are about 27 (20 full time job and the rest part time). In this project will take part a group of 4-5 teachers and about 5-6 students aged 13-15 years old. These students will be chosen by their interests and because of their good behaviour at school. They will be informed first for their role to this project and obligations. Then they have to work as a team with the teachers to accomplish the goals. The class will be the second or the third, because they are more mature to take responsibilities and can travel easier. We know well all the students and we will choose the most active ones

The school’s motivation to join the programme

Our school is very active in participating in activities and projects about sciences, environment, culture, human rights, healthcare through national and EU activities. It is the first time we intend to take part in a European Erasmus+ Project, as it has been our students’ and teachers’ desire and request for a long time. We believe in the European orientation of the education and we think that we have to profit a lot by becoming acquainted with schools, education systems, people working in education, and good practices applied in European countries. We believe in cooperation and in the importance of exchanging cultural data, as a major factor in mutual understanding and respect between people in EU. We hope thtat the participation in this project will give us the chance to broaden our horizons and contribute to the better managing of mutual problems, to the building of a long time cooperation and to the advancement of the proximity of European people in general.

The Key people in charge of the project

The key people in charge of the project will be the school’s director, Mr Aristeides Palaiochoritis, who has long experience in teaching and directing schools, and teachers who teach in our school: Mrs Georgia Ropi, Literature and History teacher, who has already participated in an Erasmus+ project for teachers and takes active part in projects and activities in our school and is a fluent speaker of English, German and French. Other teachers will participate, too, who have long education experience and active interest in national and European projects. All these people have already proved their responsibility and wish for collaboration and working together with students and other teachers to promote the goals of the project.

In case these persons leave their posts in the future, other people will take charge, who will be acquainted with the goals and the requirements of the project- a new director, or staff interested and experienced in European projects.

Specific experience or expertise

Our school is very active in participating in activities and projects about sciences, environment, culture, human rights, healthcare through national and EU activities. It is the first time we intend to take part in a European Erasmus+ Project, but we are eager to work hard for the success of its goals, as it has been our students’ and teachers’ desire and request for a long time. The people in charge of running the project have long experience in teaching and participating in activities and national projects with EU orientation. They have already participated in Erasmus+ projects for teachers and take active part in projects and activities in our school. They have already proved their responsibility and wish for collaboration and working together with students and other teachers to promote the goals of the project. We are eager to learn, to share, to exchange views and good practices, to collaborate and to promote the European spirit and goals. We believe that we will be able to contribute to the goals of the project and that it will be the beginning of a long-lasting European cooperation and activity.
